Class Experience

Feedback on student art is given if needed. This will be a mix of shape art and line art.

Anime discussion in the first 10 mins. What Chibi is, an explanation of Shugo Chara an anime that uses a lot of chibis to inspire character design, a few short anime clips viewed. Content varies depending on the group. Such as, if a group needs more time to draw, the clips may be omitted.

one cute eye style will be designed, one serious eye style, different mouths, noses, hair, clothing options. Chibi first for character and as much full-body as there is time for, muscles may not be drawn if limited on time.

******Please note the artist will use photoshop for ease of repetition. Students do NOT need photoshop or any other drawing app. Pencil and paper works just as well. If a student is using an app and new to it, the student may fall behind. But they can use it if they want. Please refer to the recording if needed.

Students MUST ask for feedback on their own. This will be said in class. The instructor regularly checks to see what everyone is doing but does not expect a replica drawing. Children can get emotional when told to change something they worked hard on. It's ok if a student does not want to share, but then the instructor cannot help them directly.

The class votes when it is time to move on. So the pace is not set by the instructor. If your child doesn't communicate continually that the pace is too fast or too slow I will assume everything is ok. I will remind students to regularly slow me down if they need it.

IMPORTANT:

Instructor is in EASTERN time zone. PLEASE double check what the time is, and if it fits for your schedule. Make sure you check your spam as many messages end up in the spam folder.

Some 7-year-olds do ok in this course, some don't, 7 is the minimum. I don't suggest anyone younger registers.

Some features listed above may not be finished depending on if the students need more time. Class time MAY be extended for those who wish to finish depending on the instructor's schedule.

Students in this class largely prefer quiet for concentration, however, talk is encouraged by instructor. Please check with the instructor after class if there was a perceived lack of engagement. Often the students communicate in chat to the instructor they don't want to talk. Or mute themselves.

PLEASE if you need me to slow down, have your child communicate that to me via chat or verbally. Parents shouldn't do this for the child due to outschool rules.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to think independently as they design their own characters

Parental Guidance
If your child is below the age range please keep in mind they may struggle. The recording will be available should they fall behind and need to review. Any students below age 7 cannot enter the class. As much as I love teaching all kids, this can be uncomfortable for older students. If your child isn't sharing their work or communicating with me I can't help effectively, if i'm not told people need more time or help i may assume the class is advanced and ready for more content.

Hi, my name is Lori Esposito, I graduated from the School of Visual Arts and earned my BA in Cartooning. Additionally, I am a M.A. certified school counselor and ready to adapt to all learning needs! I teach art and socio-emotional development with children of all ages. I have tutored and taught groups of children ages Pk-8 for six years. I have 30 graduate art education credits at Brooklyn College and open to giving critique to students who need it, as well as portfolio help.

It is important to me to get feedback from children and parents because there is always room for improvement. I value the ideas children have and I always seek to give them the comfort and confidence they need to be independent.

I love painting, drawing, comics, clay art, visiting museums, gardening, cooking, and reading. I thank all the parents who take my classes for trusting me with your children!
