In this one-time class, I will teach students how shape language is used to create an immediate emotional response. Rectangles, circles, and triangles. These simple shapes are used to design our whole world. Then I will show students how to use this and guide them in a fun Baymax from Disney's Big Hero 6 drawing. This class will be structured into three parts: A friendly introduction, welcoming students, and getting to know each other. The lesson, showing examples from some of your child’s favorite shows and movies, highlighting these shapes in characters, props, and environments. And lastly, a fun draw along where we will use what was taught to create a fun drawing of Baymax from Disney's Big Hero 6. As the instructor, I will teach by engaging students using characters, props, and locations from popular culture that they are familiar with and have a connection to, like the Avengers, Disney, Pixar, Transformers, and Batman. I will use Photoshop to overlay rectangles, circles, and triangles highlighting the shapes that are hidden in plain sight. Following this, I will use Photoshop to lead the students in a fun draw-along that will help to solidify what I have already shown. I will show by example line by line how to draw Baymax from Disney's Big Hero 6 using circles.
Learning Goals
In this lesson, students will learn an introduction to shape language for design and knowledge of the emotional reactions we have to simple shapes: rectangles, circles, triangles. They will also improve their problem-solving skills in using simple shapes to simplify, construct and complete a drawing of Baymax from Disney's Big Hero 6.
