Class Experience
US Grade 4 - 6
Exploring drawing and animal biology flexible four-week class. Each week I will share a tutorial video where I draw the anatomical details of a specific animal (see list of weekly prompts below). I will draw slowly and methodically, explaining as I progress, each element to the drawing. I will add color to make each part of the animal more clearly identifiable. I will also provide written information to be added to drawing such as names of organs, description of function. We draw the anatomical details of a variety of animals, learning about their specific functions, appearance and position as well as some behavioral facts about the given animal. This class combines learning better drawing skills with knowledge of animals. We will be drawing the cross-section appearance of each animal, skeleton and organs, and add written descriptions to these. This class will further the learners drawing skills, while at the same time give detailed knowledge of animal biology. The course aim to draw attention to similarities and differences between various different types of animals, and thereby making animal biology more accessible. The drawings create an informative, and creative resource that students can keep and use for their further biology study/revision! There are weekly follow-up posts, and I will provide a second prompt in these, which is a creative and relevant extension of the first (for example; if main topic is the Bee, the follow-up will be a Wasp) Students may present their work to the group by uploading their finished drawings to the classroom, to get feedback from the teacher and class members. Students may also ask questions in the classroom or by messaging the teacher individually. Each topic will be accompanied by an 'extension task'. There is no use of external websites or apps as all reference is provided by teacher in class room. No live meetings, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours time commitment per week outside of class. No required experience or knowledge is needed to join this class. Topic list (the tutorial video will be released a day prior to start date. Please note teacher is in British Summer Time zone.)
