1 live meeting
45 mins in-class hours per weekHomework
1 hour per week. Learners may need to complete their drawings at home. I know I always needed more time! Questions and critiques are welcome after class finishes through the Outschool messaging system. Optional: Learners are encouraged to practice using the steps that they learned to any drawing at home!Assessment
Learners will receive individualized, constructive critiques and praise throughout the end of class.Class Experience
In this interactive, ongoing class, learners will learn foundational drawing skills and habits that can be applied to any drawing - from cartoon to realistic. For these classes, we will focus on drawing cartoon animals with colored pencils! In every class, students will learn and practice applying key steps to the animal drawing of the week. All levels are welcome. Some learners who are detailed-oriented may need to finish their drawings at home. I know I always needed to! Drawing Techniques Shapes - Learners will learn to identify the biggest shapes first before getting to details. Specific shapes - As learners grow more confident, they will be tasked to find specific shapes instead of generic shapes (example: I see an oval for the body. What is a more specific shape? The body is like a peanut!) Line - Learners will learn to identify the "star" of the drawing and to use line to make the animal stand out. Drawing Habits Learners are encouraged to use the whole paper to create their own background. This creates the habit of thinking big and of learning how to fit the drawing on the paper. This habit will also get learners to think about composition that will help them in future projects. TUESDAYS at 6:30pm Eastern Every class: Learners will apply key steps to draw an animal while learning some interesting facts. Learner's choices (O, A, I) Sept 27 (A) - Calico Cat Oct 4 (I) - Sand Cat Oct 11 (O) - Butterfly Oct 18 (A) - TBA Oct 25 (I) - TBA Oct 1 (O) - Llama My goal on Outschool is not only for learners to have fun, but most importantly for learners to learn key techniques about shapes, tones, textures, perspective, etc. that they can apply to any drawing. My hope is that learners take what they learn in class and apply it to their drawings at home as they steadily improve and become more confident. See you in class!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I graduated from Grand Central Atelier in New York City where I was trained to draw and paint realistically in a traditional way. While I usually draw realistically, I also enjoy using this approach to draw in different styles. My goal is to teach children the tools of drawing and give them the opportunity to practice applying them so that they will be able to draw what they want independently.
