Beginner - Advanced Level
In this ongoing class, students will be learning to draw art life scenery (animals, landscapes, skylines) and use oil or chalk pastels techniques to paint it. We will break down elements into simple shapes and then refine our drawing. Pastel painting techniques will cover blending, layering, scumbling, stippling, sgraffito (scratching-oil only) & impasto (heavy layering -oil only) as needed for the specific project. Lessons will be in a "work with me format" with visual and audio step-by-step instructions. I will show my finished work at the start of class as an example along with the supplies needed to create it. Art freedom and fun will be emphasized in a relaxed setting. Students will be encouraged to add their creative personal touches to their work. I will offer a sharing event at the end of the class and/or I will encourage students to upload their finished work to the classroom after it dries to share with me and their art friends. Pencil & eraser.
Pastel paper, watercolor paper or mixed media paper. (Textured thick paper)
Oil or chalk pastels set (various colors). Creamy oil pastels are much easier to layer and blend.
Paper towels.
Q-tips for blending.
Rounded tip paint palette knife. (child-safe)
If other supplies are needed for specific projects, it will be listed in the classroom for that week.

Hello art friends! I'm Ms. Michelle. I'm offering directional and expressive art projects for young learners. I'm an artist with my education in Fine Art. I believe whole heartedly in the Montessori philosophy. I owned Montessori schools for years and I've taught art to thousands of preschool and elementary students in person and online.
Art has always been my happy place where I can be myself, share experiences, and enjoy friends. My art classes will help students practice fine motor skills, follow oral and visual instructions, improve art skills, and express themselves through creativity and social classes.

*Missed ongoing classes (only) may be offered one opportunity to join another time that week as a make up class. (transfer) My schedule fills quickly so let me know before the scheduled class. There are no refunds for missed classes.
*Late to Class Policy - If you’re more than 10 minutes late, I reserve the right to not admit you into class. This is a significant interruption in the process of creation for other learners. If there’s another time for the class, I’ll offer a transfer. If there’s a schedule conflict, please msg me for a transfer before class. No refunds for late arrivals. I appreciate your consideration.
