Class Experience

Would you rather draw a Kawaii-style dessert or a Kawaii-style plant? In this class, you can do both. During this self-paced class, the learners will learn how to draw their own creations in the Japanese style of Kawaii. I will discuss using different elements of Kawaii drawings. I will also be demonstrating how to create dimensions using shading with alcohol markers. Each week, I will provide a video demonstrating how to create different items in the style of Kawaii using a theme. I will also offer challenges for the participants to create their own drawings using this style of drawing.
The topics will include what Kawaii is, how to use lines and shapes to create drawings, and creating dimension by adding shading and highlights. Using alcohol markers to create shading and highlights will be covered as well.
The structure of the class will be as follows: Videos will be posted weekly. Students will post their creations to the Outschool Classroom page no later than Thursdays. The students will be expected to post their pictures or send me a message with their pictures by Saturday of each week. The additional challenges will include creating an item related to the theme that has not been demonstrated during the weekly video.
I will teach by providing a video demonstrating the creation of a Kawaii-style drawing each week. I will also demonstrate how I use alcohol markers to create dimensions in the drawing by creating shading.
My teaching style is relaxed and focuses on praise and positive reinforcement. While I will be using alcohol ink markers in my demonstration videos, if you are using a different medium, please let me know and I will demonstrate the use of the alternative medium as well.
