In this drawing class, students will learn how to draw a boy’s face in anime and manga. If you love anime or manga, this class is for you! In this class, students will not trace any drawings. Instead, they will learn to draw like the pros (but at a slower pace, of course). The teacher and the students will draw together as he guides them through a simplified, step-by-step process. Students will need a pencil; a good eraser (separate from the pencil and preferably smudge-resistant); a sketch pad or a small pack of letter-size, unlined white paper; a smooth, flat drawing surface; and a ruler or something that has a safe, straight edge and is easy to handle. Note: I have added time to this class. That way students will feel less pressure to finish, and since we are more likely to finish early in a longer class, students will have more time to polish their drafts with more feedback from me (and feel better about their finished products). Class Overview -- Icebreaker: Give everyone a chance to talk about why they love anime and their favorite characters. -- Drawing the close-up, front view of a boy’s face -- Wrap-up

Teacher expertise and credentials
Doctoral Degree in English from Morgan State University
I have been drawing since I was a toddler watching re-runs of the funny Batman TV series (way before my time) and trying to imitate what I saw. BAM! BIFF! KA-POW! I also imitated the drawings in a giant-size Batman coloring book that was just as tall as I was. As I got older, I drew other comic book characters and Transformers. I took art classes in high school and college. Later, I taught a drawing workshop (basic drawing and anime/manga) as part of the weekend and summer activities for an Upward Bound program.
I have more than 10 years of teaching experience. I have taught at the high school and college levels, and I have served as an academic counselor. In addition, I ran an afterschool homework center and summer academic enrichment program for grades K-5 for a year. Therefore, I have worked with small children, pre-teens, teens, and adults successfully.
