Class Experience

In this fun and interactive course, students will develop their drawing ability by studying the subject matter of food. As this is a self-paced class there are no live meetings but I provide an abundance of resources and support to help learners develop at their own pace. I am available and happy to answer your questions any time during the 4 weeks of class.

Over four weeks, we will progress through a virtual 3 course meal together. Through specially recorded video demonstrations we will create beautiful pencil drawings together! Each post will link to a private Nearpod lesson and learners can choose from the menu to draw different items. They can base their choice on their real food preferences or on what they feel would be most fun to draw. Of course they also have the option to draw everything on the menu if they would like to really develop their skills! This course is suitable for both beginners and those with more experience because the choice within the menu means that learners can opt for slightly easier or harder drawings. I will include a more simple drawing at every stage. Gradually adding food and drinks, they will create their individual three course "meal" and build an impressive drawing/series of drawings, improving their drawing technique along the way. By the end of dessert, they'll have increased their confidence and have artwork to be proud of!

In addition to this, I will also provide a downloadable resource on a famous artist/s who use food as subject matter in their work. This will include suggested (optional) activities for extended learning opportunities (eg. taking a photo in the style of the artist). These challenges are open-ended and designed to inspire all learners by demonstrating how we can be creative in different ways, so sharing the results to the classroom is highly encouraged!

As we progress through the menu together, the learner will be expected to post pictures of their drawing progress in the classroom for feedback. I will check in with my learner once a week and respond to their uploaded work within 24 hours. Please encourage your child to interact in the Classroom as much as possible for the most rewarding learning experience!
This class is designed to take approximately 4 weeks but can be completed more quickly depending on the drawings chosen and whether the Creative Challenges are completed.

---------------------------------

The skills students will learn during this course will build confidence and technique and be applicable to all future drawings they undertake. They will be welcome to join my live ongoing drawing class "Everything You Need to Know About Drawing" where we complete a different drawing each week. If you have any questions about this Self-Paced class please do not hesitate to message me.
Learning Goals
Students will develop their drawing ability, using simple shapes to begin their drawings. They will also learn why food has always been a central subject matter in still life art.
