US Grade 1 - 3
Beginner Level
Join me for this fun business, art and social class! Each learner will have the opportunity to draw three elements on their blank paper, for their real or imaginary business: - Business name (uppercase, lowercase, block letters, cursive, or their own unique font?) - Basic logo (what do they want to communicate with their logo?) - An image of their product or service (what are they selling, and what does it look like?) This is a semi-private class with a maximum of 2 learners. While this is a mostly fun, interactive drawing class, we'll also talk through each element above as we draw. No art or business experience necessary! This class is interactive (though learners can be on-camera or off, and can participate in on-topic chats if they don't want to communicate verbally), and explores art, drawing, problem solving, critical thinking, translating ideas into images, and thinking through business ideas. Each learner will have the opportunity to share their drawing, and there will be time for independent drawing as well as questions and feedback. Please note this is not an art *technique* class, it's an exploration of each learner's personal art style combined with communicating about our business ideas. The only necessary materials are paper and pen, but colored pencils, crayons, markers, and paint are welcome! A note about my classroom guidelines: kids can be wiggly, distracted, and sensory seeking, and that's totally normal! I try to create spaces that are supportive, cozy, and interactive. Because some behaviors can be distracting for classmates, I will share a basic set of guidelines at the beginning of class. I want to make sure that all students are cared for, and reducing on-camera distractions is part of that! 1) Video on or off (after verification)! Discussions can be verbal or in *on-topic* chats. 2) Be respectful; don't interrupt; raise your (physical or digital) hand! Don't intentionally distract other students (e.g. putting things directly in front of the camera) 3) Because they can be quite distracting, this class does not allow video filters, avatars, or background changes (except blur). 4) If necessary, I will move a disruptive student to the waiting room. If appropriate, I will let them back in for another chance to stay in class respectfully. If this occurs and you have questions, please reach out to Support. 5) Any racist, homophobic, body shaming, violent or inappropriate language/images will result in removal from class. If this happens, you may email outschool@support.com with any questions. A few other notes: - Please click your meeting link 2-3 minutes early so we can start class on time! - Per OS policy, if there are no students in the classroom 10 minutes after class starts, I will log off and end class. (If you're having tech issues trying to enter the classroom, just send a message or post in the classroom, so I know you are there!) - If you cannot attend, please let me know at least 24 hours before class starts, so I can transfer you to a different section (when possible). When it might not be possible: if you ask for a transfer for a multiday class the day before it starts, and your transfer will result in the class dropping below the learner minimum, I may not be able to offer a transfer. But if I can, I will! - Class recordings are not automatically shared; they will be made available when possible. Please note, new OS policy is that a learner can't watch a video until they have attended class, unless they are a verified learner. - Learners are encouraged to advocate for how they would like to participate. If your learner needs adult help (e.g. adult on screen, adult answers for child or facilitates answers, adult takes notes), please let me know in advance per OS parent guidance.

I enjoy helping kids and teens learn business and social skills, build their confidence, and learn about sustainability. My classes help kids think critically, communicate, build self awareness, and learn to set healthy boundaries. My multi-day classes are interactive and engaging, and support students in thinking critically about their business ideas. Some of my one-time classes are more lecture style, but still include lots of time for questions / discussions. My students say I'm flexible, helpful, knowledgeable, kind, and supportive.
I know online learning can be expensive for families, so I try to accommodate discounts and scholarships, no questions asked. (For more info, message me with the name of the class and day/time you're interested in, and the amount of discount you are requesting. I will let you know ASAP if I can accommodate your request!)
My background: I'm a small business consultant, social media marketing (SMM) teacher, and sustainability advocate! I've owned several small businesses for over the last 15 years, and I've been a business consultant and SMM teacher for 8+ years. I have experience selling handmade goods, vintage products, art, services, events, and more! During my day job, I help small businesses grow and thrive through creating deep community connections and using social media as a local tool - safely.
My teaching style: I know everyone learns differently, and strive to be flexible on what learning looks like for you! At the beginning of class, I share my classroom guidelines that help reduce distractions for other learners (and my neurodivergent brain, too!) These include:
- Students can be on or off camera, after visual verification (unless learner has a green check verification).
- My classes are very interactive, but learners can respond verbally, in the chat, or not at all
- Homework is optional, but highly recommended to reinforce what we're learning in class
- You can request homework accountability, and I'll check in. (I only do this by request!)
- Final Semester Presentations are required, but multiple format options are offered
- My classes are about learning and critical thinking, not memorization or getting the answers "right"
- Students should not use AI/ChatGPT to answer questions or create presentations (see previous point)
If your learner has any specific learning needs not addressed here, or if you need to be present on-screen during class, please send me a message!
A little more about me: I have a BA in Political Science and Government from UNC-Chapel Hill and a Master's in City Design and Social Science from the London School of Economics. I take continuing education classes on how to best support a wide range of learners, LGBTQia issues, and other relevant topics. I grew up in Vermont, went to college in NC, completed graduate school in England, and have lived in Florida, Washington DC, and Washington State. Right now I'm traveling abroad, with my tween, teen, partner, and dog! I use the pronouns she/her or they/them.
If you are interested in a class but don't see the right time for your learner - feel free to use the auto-scheduling feature, or send me a message. Looking for a class but can't find it? It might be unlisted, send me a message!
