This weekly Art Class will be an ongoing art class for students interested in learning fundamentals and specifics of art. There will be a variety of projects which we don't finish in 1 class. Email me if you wish to enroll your child.

Class experience

Students will learn the discipline of developing a drawing to the best of their ability. They will learn to follow along one step at a time. They will learn that it is the job of an artist to draw "what they see", not "what they 'think' is there. They will learn to draw everything they see and nothing they don't see. They will learn to follow directions, because following directions in art leads to success. Everyone was born wanting to draw. Every child grabs for a crayon, right? It is my job to encourage them that they can make beautiful art year after year, if they just keep drawing.
All of us have a gift to share with others, and this is what I want to share. I started drawing when I was very young and haven't stopped. I love drawing more than anything. I'm also naturally good at teaching. I've been an art teacher for over 20 years, and I've also taught Drama, Photography, Speech and Dance. I've always been really good at explaining things. Plus, I enjoy the students. If you know your son or daughter likes art, I will help them create beautiful projects worthy of framing on the wall, not just curling up on the refrigerator! :)
Homework Offered
As I mentioned above, homework will be required to finish an art piece if the student isn't done at the end of a particular class when and if a new and different project is scheduled for the next subsequent class.
Assessments Offered
I will look at all the students' work during class and assess them along the way. As long as the student tries his or her best and does neat, complete work, he or she will be successful!
Grades Offered
 2 files available upon enrollment
I can provide my expertise. You will need 1) DRAWING PAPER. A white drawing paper tablet (found online on Amazon, or dickblick.com or Target) will work great. I prefer 80 lb. weight paper, so I think the paper at Target might be lighter weight, but it's certainly fine if that's all you can get right now. 81/2 x11" or 9x12". Strathmore has a 9x12 60-sheet spiral pad in 64lb. weight at Target for $6.49. Also - "Mellisa and Doug" Drawing pad 50 sheets heavy weight on Amazon for $2.99. Just be careful that it's not too stiff like card stock. 2) A PENCIL - Bic #2 mechanical 0.7 pencils from Target are my "go-to" pencils. BIC X-TRA LIFE. A 40 count box is about $10 but you can buy single pencils. Don't get 0.9. Not the x-tra smooth x-tra strong or sparkle...they break too easily. I create significant art using these and they're way cheaper than drawing pencils, but easy, since you don't have to sharpen them. If all you have available are Ticonderoga #2, that's fine. But I will not let the students use the pink eraser on the end of that type of pencil. It smears the drawing and leaves a pink streak. *Please note, if they wish to use "drawing" pencils with varying degrees of soft to hard leads, they may, but it isn't required. 3) AN EXTRA ERASER. "White Pearl" is fine..Target 3-pack $1.99. 4) COLORED PENCILS, and Prismacolor is the colored pencil of choice, as it is the best blending and shading capabilities. These can be found on Amazon. If Prismacolor colored pencils are not in your budget, then Crayola is the best bet. They will work fine. These are also at Target - 24 ct. $2.99. 5) WATERCOLORS. I will leave it up to you to select what's best for them or your family budget, but the tray watercolors work fine for what we do in here. All can be found on Amazon. Please select a watercolor brush, maybe two sizes. They are tapered through the tip. 6) ULTRA FINE BLACK SHARPIE PEN, and if possible a #3 MICRON black pen, too. 7) GEL PENS (These are optional - gold/silver/white) on Amazon. Uniball Signo is the very best brand. For any additional supplies I will list them in advance on the classroom page. The Sharpies can be found at Target or on Amazon, and the Micron pens can be found on Amazon too.
