Class Experience
This class is for kids who want to practice drawing realistic-looking humans! Each week of "Draw Together" is a miniature drawing workshop, alternating full-figure and portrait sketches. For the lesson, I demonstrate each step of our drawing, using reference photos to guide our sketches. Students follow along (but may add their own changes or details!), and we pause frequently so that each student can receive individual feedback. We will practice skills such as: drawing from...
Students will practice drawing from observation, shading, adding clothing, and creating backgrounds with contrast and depth. Some weeks may include optional additional media practice such as ink, watercolor, or colored pencil.
Figure drawing is my favorite art discipline! I have years of experience creating my own drawings and sculptures, using the human form as inspiration, and I always brought my enjoyment and expertise to my students when we created figurative artworks. I have taught figure drawing to elementary, junior high, and high school age students for over a decade, and look forward to meeting more young artists who want to learn this skill!
Students who work more slowly may wish to use time after class to finish their sketches.
1 file available upon enrollmentAn image will be provided for students for each week's drawing. This image will be viewed on screen during class. Students will need the following materials each week: Drawing paper (sketchbooks may be purchased from a variety of retailers for ~$10) Pencil & eraser (block eraser preferred) Optional materials (these will not be used every week, but some additional instruction may be provided): Drawing or fountain ink pen Colored pencils Watercolor paints
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
We will be using photographs of people as references. Photographs will depict a diverse range of body types, and respect for all models will be expected. There will be no nudity, however some figures may be clothed in leotards, gym shorts, or similar. Please feel free to address concerns with me beforehand, and I will take your student's needs into consideration.
