Draw Together: Magical & Legendary Creatures

This is an ongoing class for young artists who want to practice drawing "realistic" magical and mythological animals; each week, we'll use photos to help us create a different fantastic creature from myth and legend!

Class Experience

Students will practice drawing from observation, shading, creating texture, and creating backgrounds with contrast and depth. Some students may choose to include additional media practice such as ink, watercolor, or colored pencil.
I have taught drawing for many years, and in my observation the most effective way to teach good drawing skills is to demonstrate them. Drawing together with my students gives me the perfect forum to illustrate drawing techniques while helping them to build the critical thinking and observational skills they need to continue working on their own. My goal is to build my students' skills and confidence as young artists!
All you'll need is drawing paper (or a sketch book), a pencil, and an eraser!

If you'd like, you may add color to your work! Colored pencils, markers, ink, watercolors, are applauded but not required :).
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
We'll be discussing the stories and mythologies of creatures from a range of cultural origins. Students are encouraged (and required) to keep discussion and story elements that they share "PG-rated" in consideration of their peers.
