Welcome to 'Draw Together,' where every week is an exciting journey inspired by stories from around the world! We kick off each class by hearing the origins and epic tales of our chosen creature before then drawing it together. Students have the option to follow my step-by-step guidance or unleash their own creativity to craft their unique interpretation. In the drawing portion of class, we use reference photos to practice using observational drawing to enhance our imaginative drawing skills. Dynamic poses, expressive faces, shading, texture, background, color-- it's all on the table (as time allows!). I offer individual feedback to students who opt for it, ensuring everyone gets personalized attention. As we wrap up, there's time for students to proudly showcase their creations and share in the creative energy. My goals extend beyond teaching a specific creature: it's about empowering students to refine their drawing skills, equipping them to tackle any subject they desire. Creativity is encouraged, allowing students to tweak details or add their own personal flair to their artwork. Lessons are interactive, and I value student input. At the end of each month, we take suggestions for the next batch of creatures; here's what our current class came up with for the month: ********************************************** Upcoming creatures include: Nov. 4: Capelobo! (Brazilian) Nov. 11: Ennedi tiger! (Africa) Nov. 18: Ipilja-ipilja! (Australian) Nov. 25: Sphinx! (Greek & Egyptian) ********************************************** If you're new to Outschool you can follow this link for some handy tips to get started! https://support.outschool.com/en/articles/802757-how-to-prepare-for-your-first-class To see more of Ms. Kristy's classes, visit my teacher profile here: https://outschool.com/teachers/Kristine-Mankin#us3u0MdGLD

We'll be discussing the stories and mythologies of creatures from a range of cultural origins. Students are encouraged to keep discussion and story elements that they share "PG-rated" in consideration of their peers.
Pre-Requisites
While no previous drawing classes are required, students who are comfortable sketching will find themselves particularly at home in this class. Students may draw in their own style, but still having the option to follow my demonstration.
Supply List
All you'll need is drawing paper (or a sketch book), a pencil, and an eraser! If you'd like, you may add color to your work! Colored pencils, markers, ink, watercolors, are applauded but not required. You may even work in a digital medium if you so desire :).

I have taught drawing for many years, and in my observation the most effective way to teach good drawing skills is to demonstrate them. Drawing together with my students is a great format to illustrate drawing techniques while helping them to build the critical thinking and observational skills they need to continue working on their own. My goal is to build my students' skills and confidence as young artists!
