In this class, we will draw squishmallows together based on the theme of Taylor Swift's eras/albumsums. We will start by lightly drawing our squishmallows in pencil and then use colored pencils (or markers) to help our drawings come alive! This class is learner-driven in what era(s) we draw! My goal is always to maintain an encouraging and calm atmosphere I love when my learners ask questions, share their drawings and set the pace. I will guide the drawings using an overhead camera and talk as I draw. I will periodically pause and check in with all my learners so no one feels left behind. Everyone has different drawing techniques. My ultimate goal is to encourage drawing with confidence.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello there! I'm Makenna, a passionate designer, creative thinker, and art enthusiast dedicated to imparting awesome art and design techniques while exploring the transformative power of creativity!
About Me:
I recently graduated (June 2023) from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) with dual B.F.A.s in Industrial (product) Design and Service Design. My journey with art started in childhood, evolving to include extensive skills, such as perspective drawing techniques, still life drawing, ideation sketching, visual presentations, prototyping ideas, design thinking, systems thinking, user research, and so much more!
I believe that there's no correct way to create – the beauty lies in the process. I am passionate about making design accessible and inclusive for all.
Experience:
I have practical experience working with kids and pride myself on finding innovative, creative approaches to teaching.
I have worked with kids ages 3-14 in care and camp settings. I worked with 10-14-year-olds weekly as a mentor for a social group for four years. I developed and designed plans for projects encouraging creativity and social interaction.
Throughout my four years of high school and the summer before college, I worked at the church preschool with 3-6-year-olds. I would often draw side by side with hesitant kids in an effort to help them become comfortable. In the summer of 2019, I worked as a summer camp intern for a church, organizing materials and interacting with the campers ages 3-13 in various camps, including an art camp. In my senior year of high school,
I participated in a PALs program where I mentored two different girls, a 14-year-old and a 10-year-old girl, every week for a year. I had to come up with fun games and art projects with my mentee that helped to uplift them and help build their confidence.
Teaching Philosophy:
Creativity has been a guiding force in my life, boosting my confidence in drawing and creation. Now, I'm on a mission to inspire others to find that same empowerment. I am confident in my ability to teach kids the joy of drawing and creating courageously through positive feedback and encouragement.
Here are some more facts to get to know me facts:
I love exploring new ways of thinking and doing things.
There's no correct way to create; that's the beauty of it.
I am passionate about accessible and inclusive design.
Outside of art, I LOVE reading and constantly expanding my knowledge.
I love music! The piano is definitely my favorite instrument
I love dogs! (Cats are awesome, too!)
I can't wait to share my enthusiasm for creating with you in class!
All the best,
Makenna
