Curriculum: This is an introductory drawing lesson with an element of zoology incorporated into it. In the beginning of the lesson, students will learn about sloths, their habitats, and the challenges they face in the wild. Students will learn how to tell the difference between two-toed and three-toed sloths, without seeing their hands! After an introductory discussion about sloths, I'll begin a live drawing demonstration. I'll send photo references for drawing prior to the lesson and provide step-by-step instructions on drawing these charismatic creatures. Teaching Style: I love engaging with kids as much as possible, and encourage them to ask or answer questions throughout the lesson. Class discussion is especially encouraged during the drawing portion of the lesson, as there tends to be some space for them to talk and ask questions while we're working on our artwork. I also encourage students to show their artwork periodically, even if they’re still working on it. It’s fine if they’re still adding detail by the end of class and would like to add finishing touches on their own time afterwards.
Learning Goals
In addition to sloth facts, students will learn introductory sketching and inking drawing techniques.
