Description

Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
The goal of this four week class is to give students an opportunity to learn the value of the process in art, and practice their drawing skills with the guidance of a more advanced artist. By using the same technique and process for drawing a different animal each week, students will begin to internalize the process to use in their art practice after the course.
Some students are very fast artists and some are slow. We will draw at a pace that is between the two to allow us to finish our drawing and be best for everyone. I cannot stop the class for students who are slower, but I will encourage slower artists to take their time and complete the drawing after the class if it is necessary. We're focused on our process and not the end result, so an unfinished drawing at the end of our class is still a successful drawing.
Pencil- Drawing pencils are great but not required. If you are using drawing pencils I would recommend using 2-3 pencils ranging from light to dark, such as 2b and 4b or 2b, 4band 6b. Paper- Students can use any quality of paper they prefer. I recommend paper that is smooth and does not have much texture. Eraser- Our method of drawing embraces mistakes, so we plan to use an eraser. Any eraser will do but some of my favorites to use are a kneaded eraser, and a mechanical eraser for erasing small details.
Students are may be asked to post a photo of their drawing in the classroom and if they feel comfortable, complete a three question self-assessment, or critique.
What is something I did well in this drawing?
What is something I could improve?
How did I feel during the drawing process? (Frustrated? Confident? Challenged?)
I will respond to students’ drawings with the first two questions of the critique.
35 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
