Homework
Students complete work on their own time in a FLEX class. Supplemental activities should take 30 minutes a week. The drawing videos last around 30 minutes a week, but students may choose to pause video to draw and add details.Assessment
Learners are assessed informally through comments on the class page or messages. I will provide feedback on the drawings with regard to the objectives of the lesson such as shape, proportion and shading. Students may ask for feedback on specific issues.Class Experience
Please note that this is a FLEX class, which means that classes are recorded and students complete assignments on their owIn this FLEX class we will sketch and draw the human face and focus on at least one drawing technique each week as it relates to the subject. This class is for learners who are interested in drawing people and want to learn different drawing techniques related to that. While students are encouraged to follow along with the instructor when drawing, they are also encouraged to implement their own drawing style and creative ideas. This FLEX class contains four video lessons that build upon each other. Information is presented in two ways: a slide presentation (which includes art vocabulary, art technique and photo references), as well as a recording of the drawing lesson. The photo references in the slide presentation and drawing demonstration show a variety of gender and ethnicities. Some discussion points may include: observing and noting things in the photo reference and drawing, identifying and explaining art techniques, and identifying art vocabulary. n time (i.e., there are no live class meetings). Some of the art vocabulary we will be learning include: guidelines, proportion, texture, shading, shape, line and value (lights and darks). We will learn how to hold the pencil and discuss how to use the materials to achieve the effect we want in our drawings. We will also learn to apply a variety of pencil techniques to our sketches, including: shading, sketching, and creating textures. The sequence of lessons is as follows: Lesson 1: Guidelines / Smiling Expression Lesson 2: Proportion / Surprised Expressions Lesson 3: Texture / Angry or Frustrated Expression Lesson 4: Shading / Calm Expression In this four week FLEX class, class content will be posted on the class page by 11:00 am (central time) on the first day of class, and the first day of each subsequent week. Students may view and complete activities on their own time during the week. Students are encouraged to share their drawings or any questions they may have at any time during the week on the classroom page. The feedback I provide on student work may include: observations about the drawing (such as shape, line, value, proportion, composition, character elements), suggestions related to objectives of the lesson, and positive encouragement.
Learning Goals
Student will create four portraits expressing or showing an emotion.
Student will create four drawings that may include the following drawing techniques: proportion, sketching, shading, texture.

Parental Guidance
The Google slide presentation will be presented by the instructor onscreen within the recorded video. All content within the Google slide presentation is created by the instructor and may include: drawings, digital drawings or slides demonstrating art vocabulary and/or skills and techniques, as well as stock photo images of people (i.e., athletes, dancers).
Supplemental materials such as quizzes and slide presentations of art historical examples will be provided through Nearpod.
