Description
Class Experience
Topics covered: negative space drawing, contour line drawing, shading, observational drawing, and foreshortening.
I love to observe the interesting shapes, shadows, and patterns that form what we see. Drawing is great way to really observe simple beauty that otherwise goes unnoticed. I have a BFA in Visual Arts and a MA in Art Education. I love plants and find insects fascinating. I look forward to sharing interesting things about the plants and insects we are drawing in this class.
Each week on Friday morning Pacific Time, I will release the assigned videos, notes, and drawing challenges. I will present information to students by sharing with them videos I have made of drawing demonstrations. Weeks 1-6 will have a "Watch and Draw" video, where the students will follow along with me as I draw the subject. (But there is flexibility to this instruction and while the students are supported with information, they are often encourage to create their own compositions.) There will be some shorter videos which introduce new topics. I will also send out drawing notes to go with each lesson. I will announce weekly drawing challenges and provide the students with the support to accomplish these challenges beautifully. I will create multiple opportunities for students to collaborate on a visual art compositions as a group. This activity will engage each student. I will ask students to complete their work in a timely manner so these group activities can be accomplished and so each student is successful. I will assume that a student taking this class can spend approximately 3.5 hours a week drawing to cover all topics and challenges assigned.
To be successful in class: The student will need some sharpened HB pencils, an eraser, and 8.5" x 11" paper. It would be nice to have the following supplies but it is not required: a set of graphite pencils ranging in various levels of harness drawing paper
No live meetings, and maybe some time outside of class.
