In this drawing class, we will learn how to draw piles of cats! Piles of cats can be funny, and I encourage students to illustrate the cats with funny expressions and positions. The piles of cats can be made into Christmas trees, stacks of cats trying to fit inside boxes, or just a pile of lazy cats sleeping. In this class, we will use our imaginations! The topics students will learn are sketching, line art, overlapping, repeating patterns and how to apply color. We will use pencils to sketch, then a marker (fine tip Sharpie is preferred) to make strong outlines. Finally, we will add some touches of color using either colored pencils or watercolor paints - use what you have available at home. My teaching style is relaxed. Students are encouraged to use their imagination and make a drawing that is fun for them. I will guide students along and give positive feedback and recommendations. I will provide technical information on how to use art materials. Learners will get plenty of time to interact with me and with others through discussion of the art process. At the end of class, we will have a brief show and tell about the art we created. I will give a positive critique of artwork and possible suggestions for future. Some past experience drawing is helpful.
Learning Goals
Students will learn about creating expressive artwork, and how to incorporate humor into their art. Students will gain confidence in their artistic skills.

Hello! I am an Art Educator and Artist. I love teaching art to all ages, especially elementary school and middle school. My art classes include watercolor painting, acrylic painting, drawing, elementary art projects that work on skill building, and learning about art history through fun projects about artists - including Non-Western and Women artists.
I teach art from my heart and aim to build self esteem in my students through the arts. I challenge students to find their inner artist through creativity and self expression. I believe in the process of art, individual expression, creative thinking, and problem solving. Each art project is designed to develop technical skills, artistic interpretation, and unique artwork. We have lots of fun while making artwork and socializing is encouraged during my art classes.
My art background began as a child. I loved to learn how to paint or draw anything and everything. After receiving a BFA in Graphic Design, I became a children's textile designer in the fashion industry in NYC. While in New York, I attended fine arts classes at the Art Student's League and The New School. I moved to New York State's Hudson Valley, and am inspired daily by the landscapes and nature around me. I also am inspired by my pet cats, who may visit the classroom once in a while.
