Lesson This Week (October 9th) Happy Boy Based on MHA style (Head) Our ongoing class is open to young artists, from beginners to early intermediates. Our students expect respect and responsible behavior to create a fun and process-oriented environment. We'll teach students how to draw anime characters. While learning how to draw anime, students will learn how to draw squares, circles, and rectangles. Despite being a cartoon art style, some anime elements are rooted in reality. There is no need for prior anime drawing experience. ABOUT THIS CLASS: During this course, students will learn different fundamentals of anime design. Students can develop their own voice and style by using step-by-step practices, tutorials, and independent decisions. Anime styles and body parts will be broken into teachable segments weekly. Additionally, we will learn and be introduced to topics such as drawing the face (eyes, nose, mouth, hair, chin, etc.), drawing hands, different clothing, and hairstyles for males and females. Each student will create an anime character or body part based on the choise of the week. It is suitable for fans of kawaii, manga, and chibi. As students draw in various styles, such as cartoons and simple anime characters, they can channel their imaginations and channel their creativity in a learning environment that emphasizes creativity. All characters are original to ease into the world of anime/manga art. In addition to following along, students can add their artistic voices to their characters. Your child will learn the basics of drawing to reapply the rules independently. THE SCHEDULE AND STUDENTS'S CHOICE: Each week, there will be a different focus and dedication to a specific aspect of anime art or feature. Anime heads and bodies will be studied in their various shapes and sizes in different poses and their anatomy and proportions. Characters will be workshopped in their various shapes and sizes in different poses. As students vote each week on what to work on next, the schedule will be adjusted accordingly. I will turn down a vote if I feel the students are not ready or if they same theme gets chosen. I will leave it as a last option. Diversity is key to learning to draw characters. Fall Classes: Where we go from, there will be up to the class. Please email me if you want to know what will be drawn that week. SUPPLIES NEEDED EACH WEEK: -Sketchbook Journal or paper -A pencil (mechanical & granite #2) -A stump (Fingers can work) -Rulers THE CLASS FLOW: -Introduction Activity -Drawing Activity -Show-Off Your Work -Talk About Theme to the Following Week Students will have the opportunity to: - learn some basic to intermediate techniques for drawing anime sketches - learn the basic understanding of body portions and how to apply them to your anime characters - learn art elements of drawing such as form, line, shape, space, texture, and value. - learn art design fundamentals and drawing anime topics - learn to be accepting of challenges in different techniques with a compassionate inner artistic voice - learn from one another collaboratively, ask questions, and show work. - learn to accept getting messy and making mistakes as a way to experiment with finding their voice In this ongoing class, students can connect with their peers and ourselves as we will explore our excitement over anime art and how we can use each week to better our drawing styles. WHAT TO EXPECT: -Each student can follow along and choose to add their unique details to their characters. The student can choose their path for items that might be challenging, but I ask them to follow along with items on which they might need help. -Each student will have opportunities and ask for help throughout the class. I will ask everyone how they are doing every 5 to 10 minutes, and they can give me a thumbs up or a thumbs down and show their work. Students can also ask for help, whether out loud or through chat. I try my best, but for the sake of time and the other students, I may help after class or give guidance via email through Outschool. -In this ongoing class, students can connect with their peers as we explore our excitement over anime art and how we can use each week to better our drawing styles. -There is always a chat available, and students must follow the Outschool safety policy to remain online. -I will stay 10 minutes later if anyone needs help or if we run a little slower. I instead go slow than rush. However, I am always available after class and during the week if needed. SOME THINGS TO MENTION: This class is best suited for those starting out or with little experience in drawing. This class is for those who are up to the challenge of pushing themselves a little further. This type of drawing takes practice and exposure. It's an ongoing class to help establish a method of drawing with accountability and recognition. You are not obligated to remain in the class, but please let me know your intentions. Students can rejoin at any time without disruption. Each week, there will be a different drawing direction so that your child reuses what they have learned on their own throughout the week. There is no grade or judgment in the class. Students are asked to respect each other's time and input. Compassion is the main objective. Some experience with drawing may help the performance in the classroom. MY OTHER CLASSES: If you are interested in learning more about my other classes, the picture that leads to my profile, or copy and paste the following link: Here is my link: https://outschool.com/teachers/Tammy-Whelan#us6F4xRzBp/ Safety & Lateness: Students are asked to respect each other's time and input. I do ask that students are not late. Unfortunately, I may not admit students who are more than 10 minutes late because it is a time-sensitive activity. For all classes' safety, I asked that all students who are not verified show their faces at the beginning of the course. Those who refuse will be placed in the waiting room or removed from the class. I appreciate your consideration of this course. Have a wonderful day! Please let me know if you have any questions.

A Personalized Approach
I run an interactive and collaborative classroom, making it a point to try to adapt to my student's learning style, schedule, and needs. My effort is to ensure that my students have feel good about their efforts at the end of each class.
I motivate my students to dive deep and enjoy the very process of creating art rather than simply focusing on the end product. My approach to teaching involves believing in the uniqueness of each child and seeking to connect with and draw out that aspect of theirs into their art.
