Class Experience

Drawing a Galloping Horse together is the goal of this class. We will be using simple shapes like circles and triangles to compose a picture of a Horse. These simple shapes and steps will help children think differently about how to create. These skills are fundamentally repeatable for the child to continue to draw Horses for years.
This class will start with a simple greeting and some discussion of horses. We will all start this horse with a large circle for the body, a small circle for the head, a Square for the hip. We will discuss techniques of drawing and coloring. Once the horse has been drawn, we will look at the variety of different markings that are common to horses and each learner can create their own markings.
I have produced my own art TV show for over a decade. My own personal TV production equipment will make it easy for the students to see me draw and then copy the simple steps together.
Most of the class time will be actual drawing time, with a few segments of each person showing their work as we talk about the. art.
No special skills are needed for this class.
Learning Goals
We will draw one picture of a Galloping Horse in pencil on paper together. To understand the structure of a horse in relationship to common shapes. Then to transform these shapes into a horse. We will learn technique to create including line weight, style, mass, and shading. I always pay attention to the learns grip and style of holding the pencil or eraser.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
The only parental guidance necessary, is for concerns about art messes of paint or magic markers. Please use protective material if your student will be using paint or magic markers.
Supply List
My teaching will be focused on using regular pencils for all drawing. I will allow other media as well for coloring the drawings.
Students will need several pencils, a couple of erasers, and at least 8 sheets of paper. A child safe pencil sharpener would be great.
Extra supplies which are helpful: a ruler, pencil sharpener. extra pencils and extra erasers.
Other art supplies for coloring are great like color pencils and crayons.
Paint is fine for use in the class, but parents should put down extra protective material like card board or a drop cloth to protect floors, carpet, and furniture. Older clothes being worn by the children might be best too.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been a life long creator with the special emphasis on drawing. This class has the raw and valuable fundaments to teach how to think and express in shapes and forms. These fundamental skills are very transferable into other ways of creating. I teach the same method of drawing as I learned at about the age of 7 years old. When I went to study art for my BA and MA I still used the fundamentals which I shall be teaching: how to see simple shapes in complex animals. Knowing how to see these forms allows to re-build them as art.
