Welcome! I'm so glad you are checking out this class...it is one of my favorite to teach! In this class, students will explore biomes, ecosystems, and natural wonders through engaging lessons and hands-on art projects. Each session begins with a friendly check-in or icebreaker question to help everyone feel comfortable and excited. Then, I share a dynamic Google Slides presentation (about 15 minutes) full of interesting facts, visuals, and stories about the week's subject. During coral reef week, for example, students learn what constitutes a coral reef, what they look like, where in the world they are, the vital importance of them, how we might preserve them, and fun facts about parrot fish who live in them (like the fact that parrot fish EAT corral and excrete it as sand, to replenish the beach!). After that, students spend 25–35 minutes creating a full-sized art project based on the week’s topic. I guide them step-by-step, sharing my screen as I draw, but I encourage students to personalize their projects with their own ideas and creative touches. Throughout the artistic portion, I offer encouragement, feedback, and tips to help them create their best work. The class wraps up with an open share where students are invited to proudly show off their creations to the group. My warm, friendly teaching style ensures a fun and supportive environment for young artists to grow and learn! Jump in anytime, as each week has its own subject! Beginning in January 2025, here are some of our topics: Week of January 6th: Glaciers Week of January 13th: Mesas/Buttes Week of January 20th: Norwegian Fjords Week of January 27th: Cinder Cone Volcanoes Week of February 3rd: No Class :-( Week of February 10th: Limestone Caves Week of February 17th: Hot Springs Week of February 24th: River Deltas Week of March 3rd: Canyons Week of March 10th: Arches National Park Week of March 17th: Sandbars Week of March 24th: Tide Pools Week of March 31st: Prairies Week of April 7th: Deciduous Forests Week of April 14th: Grasslands Week of April 21st: Dune Fields Week of April 28th: Kelp Forest Week of May 5th: Rocky Tundra Week of May 12th: Mangroves Week of May 19th: Mudflat Ecosystems .....and more each week!

Teacher expertise and credentials
This class is close to my heart as it is born of my own travel experiences with my homeschooled children. We have traveled the world together and I have had the unique privilege of seeing their inner worlds expand as they have encountered the beauty and intrigue of places we do not call home. I have the wonderful opportunity to share personal stories from many of the locations I highlight in this class, which offers a refreshing perspective not found in the pages of a book!
