During this class students get to practice Spanish and learn to illustrate Kawaii style foods. I will start sharing an overview of the basics to draw Kawaii. I will talk to the students in Spanish, using as much vocabulary and phrases as appropriate, according to the things we draw (parts of the Kawaii face, food vocabulary, etc.). Students will listen to drawing directions and questions in Spanish, and they can respond if they feel comfortable. Essential instructions can be used in English, in case a student needs it. Students are welcome to share and describe their artwork to the class. Familiarity with Spanish is very helpful, but not absolutely required for enrollment. However, student must feel comfortable listening Spanish. If your child knows Spanish, this class presents an opportunity to practice Spanish skills while developing their artistic talent. This class can be taken repeatedly, as each week, we will draw different foods. Students will need pencil and paper to complete their sketches. At the end of the class, I will briefly demonstrate different techniques to illustrate our drawings, with coloring pencils, markers, and/or watercolor. Aug 6th: Las Frutas Aug 21st: Comidas Chatarra

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello and welcome to my profile. I love art and design and have a passion for my native language, Spanish. I was born in Ecuador, I have lived in the Dominican Republic and in Costa Rica. I have travelled to many countries and developed a deep appreciation for other cultures. My experience with distance teaching comes after working for over 15 years in the public school system teaching Spanish levels K-12. I hold an English as a Second Language certification, an Associate in Graphic Design (Altos de Chavon School of Design in the Dominican Republic, affiliate to Parsons), a Bachelor in General Studies with a concentration in Art (Harding University, Arkansas) and a Master of Visual Communication Design (Liberty University, Virginia, PA). I have experience working as a graphic designer, but I love to illustrate.
During my free time I like to work on different art projects through painting, sculpting, or doing digital work. I love cooking, I like to do yoga, and I greatly enjoy conversing with my Spanish speaking friends.
I will guide the students’ learning in a relaxed but focused atmosphere. I believe that since we all are unique individuals with different backgrounds, my teaching must adapt to a variety of styles and approaches. I incorporate TPR (Total Physical Response) when needed.
Looking forward to seeing you in my classes. Let’s learn Spanish language, culture & art together!
