Draw Cartoon Caricatures Like a Pro! (Camp) for Beginners.
What's included
5 live meetings
4 hrs 35 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this 5-day journey into drawing in caricature (cartoon), we will first learn how to draw a basic face and map out where the features go, and then we will learn how to move and change these features to create a comical drawing. Each day, we will focus on a different area to draw, such as hair & face shape, eyes, nose, ears and mouth. We will practice different ways to exaggerate these features. We will begin on Day 1 to to draw the eyes of several faces. In Day 2, the nose and mouth, etc. On the final day, we will put the hair and finishing touches on our drawings and I will give some tips at the end about ways to color your drawings. Only a few supplies are needed for this class, and students have a lot of fun and learn skills they can continue to practice and perhaps even earn money with one day. ------------------------------------------------ **BASIC CLASS NOTES** (Please read) I begin on time. If a student is late, they will need to jump in and catch up as they are able. I cannot re-start the class for each late arrival. You may view the recording of the class if child arrives late or ends up being unable to attend. I encourage creativity and self-expression. Students may veer from what I am doing to find their own 'voice'. Also, I encourage interaction during class (please be polite by sharing talk time and muting when there is background noise in the home). Otherwise, I welcome questions as we go along and open mics.

Supply List
-Drawing paper (I use cheap copy paper for this class, but they can upgrade to better papers once they're getting comfortable and practiced. We will just be going through a LOT of paper this week, so I recommend copy/printer paper for this class. -pencil and eraser -Crayola black & gray broad tip markers (I buy these in 10-packs and the Target off-brand works the same at 1/2 the price...we will only use the black and gray from the pack). Black crayola broad-tip markers can also be ordered in a box of 12 on Amazon. optional; -I will demonstrate using artist crayons and pastels (Pan Pastels) as these are faster and easier to use "on location". I will also show how Dollar store makeup can be used instead of pastels for beginners!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a full time Gig/LIVE Caricature Artist for weddings, corporate events, parties, etc. and while that is my “bread & butter”, I love teaching what I’ve learned to kids on Outschool.
I have an education degree and many years of experience teaching and creating art, from fine art to crafty projects, from artful home projects to designing and painting theatre sets for plays and musicals on the stage.
I love to teach children the value of creating art that is a personal and meaningful expression of themselves, helping them loosen up and enjoy the process, the missteps and the "That's good enough to sell!" moments. LOL.
Open mics and sharing are encouraged.
I teach from my whimsical art studio in North Carolina and hope to see your child in a class soon. ~Penny
** Look for CARICATURE ART CAMPS coming up this summer. Each week, we will learn a new technique and enjoy working on our projects together in class. Three and 5-day camps will be available.
