We will do a lot of drawing, listening, and looking in this class. We will learn what scientists know about the birds we draw. The kids will also work together on a VTS style looking exercise. Whenever possible, I will create the lesson from my own photography. You do not have to be an expert at drawing, but if you follow along you will not only learn about small animals, you will also become better at observing and drawing. Drawing will be done from observation and I will model the...
General Learning Goals: Understand the anatomy Understand the behavior Improve observational skills Draw from observation
I love to draw from observation and to teach drawing and observation skills. I am enthusiastic about drawing animals and plants and would like to share with students the details of these amazing species. I incorporate learning into dynamic hands-on projects for student around the world. We often use my photography in class. I have a small butterfly garden on my porch where I have learned how to attract over seven species of butterfly. Lately I am learning a lot about spiders and birds. I have completed the Advance VTS Practicum and I am excited about the looking exercises that I will be bringing to my classes!
No actual homework will be assigned, but some students choose to work on projects after class.
Drawing Notes will be provided for each class by the instructor. These notes are to be opened in another window during our meeting. Drawing paper or sketchbook 9 x 12 is a good size but larger will also work. Sharpened pencils Eraser Blending sticks or a paper towel for blending Some students might want to use color (such as colored pencils, markers, watercolor, etc.) but color is not required.
I will check that the students are following along with the drawing. The students will participate in a looking exercise.
1 hour 15 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Sources will vary for each month but will be provided for every lesson.
