Class Experience

My goal is to have a creative, accepting, safe space where the student feels comfortable. This one-on-one class is available and welcoming and appropriate for ALL students--developmentally delayed, neurodivergent, dyslexic, ESL, non-readers, etc.

CREATING:
We will start class brainstorming possible characteristics of the characters the learner is about to create.

They will choose a prompt such as:
Mythical Creatures
Characters in your neighborhood
Characters with animal characteristics
Hero and Villains

DRAWING:
Once the learner feels ready, they will have class time to draw the characters. Any level of art expertise is FINE! This is not an art class--this is a creating class! The student can make their drawings as simple or as elaborate as they choose and will have an opportunity to share the final product me. Ms. Jackson draws, too :-).

TELLING:
After we have created characters, the student and I will tell stories about the character. Depending on the student, we will create stories together or the student will simply tell the story on their own. If we have time to create more than one character, we will add each character to the original story.

Note: Please bring paper and pencils, crayons, etc. of choice for drawing

Teaching, performing for children as “Queen of Theatre,” or directing “Ms. Jackson’s Theatre!,” Kirsten Jackson facilitates imagination and confidence using silliness and laughter to create a safe place where students shine.

A widow who raised three 2E children on an acreage surrounded by animals, she believes creativity is key to authentic self-awareness. Jackson has 27 years teaching experience and 15 years directing experience. She currently teaches theatre and writing for Outschool and Young Scholars Academy.

Sydney Clemens says, "Art has the role in education of helping children become like themselves instead of more like everyone else." Ms. Jackson's goal is to allow students a safe place to explore and shine and comfortably be themselves.
