Beginner - Intermediate Level
In this fun painting class, students will learn a simple and effective watercolor technique called Wet-on-Wet.. We will draw simple leaf shapes with veins in pencil, and then draw over them with a Sharpie. After tracing, we will erase all pencil lines. The crisp black Sharpie lines will serve as a nice contrast with the softness of the painting. The last step will be to select fall colors (we will discuss them while drawing), and apply them using the wet-on-wet technique (wet the paper, float a color into the wet area, allowing it to spread, and repeat with different colors, allowing them to blend on their own. Students will be encouraged to allow their paintings to dry, and then take a photo to upload into the classroom if they are too wet at the end of class to hold up to their cameras at the end of class.

Supply List
Paper (good, heavy watercolor paper is strongly recommended; it can be found in tablets in craft stores and the craft sections of places like Walmart and Target). I recommend 9X12 but other sizes are fine! Watercolor paper ensures the technique will work properly. If watercolor paper is not available, heavy drawing paper or multimedia paper will work, just not as well. Pencil, eraser, sharpener Black Sharpie (the standard size is called fine point) Please don't get the skinny Sharpie (extra-fine or ultra-fine). We need the boldness of the regular size. Watercolor paint, any kind. The more colors in the paint palette, the more choices your child will have; however, we can work with the standard 8-color set too!

As a licensed art teacher, I have developed techniques for breaking down drawing lessons into simple, easy-to-follow steps. Once we get the basics done, I give my students freedom to complete their project using their own imagination, thereby giving them the opportunity to take what I have taught them to a different, fun and creative level.
