Description
Class Experience
In this class, we will examine the art style of contemporary artist Jen Aranyi, who is famous on Instagram, practice drawing a simple, abstract mountain range, then outline it with black Sharpies or illustrator pens (see materials list below), and finish the sky with watercolors to create a galaxy-like effect. Students will discuss different ways to finish the foreground (in front of the mountains, such as trees, a river, a camping scene, etc.) and select one for their drawing. Because...
As a 30- year veteran, licensed art teacher, I have developed techniques for breaking down drawing lessons into simple, easy-to-follow steps. Once we get the basics done, I give my students freedom to complete their project using their own imagination, thereby giving them the opportunity to take what I have taught them to a different, fun and creative level.
Paper (watercolor paper or other heavy paper, such as Bristol, strongly recommended due to the fact that we will be painting with watercolors) Pencils, sharpener, eraser Black permanent marker for outlining (permanent is important; water-based marker lines will wash into the watercolor): Sharpie brand, Micron, or similar work great for this project. Watercolors. These can be in the pan, such as Crayola, or tubes...whatever you have will work! Paint brushes Cup of water Paper towels newspapers or other way to protect table/workspace while painting.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
