Draw and Explore FLEX: Mythical Monsters & Curious Creatures of Greek Mythology
What's included
Class Experience
Do you have a favorite mythical creature? Let's explore the mythical monsters and curious creatures featured in Greek mythology! We'll learn about a new curious, fantastic beast through pictures/videos, myth and story excerpts, and interactive Nearpod lessons. Once students have some background knowledge, they will complete a step-by-step drawing of the creature and share their masterpieces in our Outschool classroom. I will provide a video tutorial as well as step-by-step printable PDFs. This is a FLEXIBLE schedule class, so there will be no live meetings. All lessons, videos, and tutorials for the week will be available to learners each Monday morning and students can complete as their schedule allows during the week. Once they have finished their lessons and drawings, students will post a picture of their creature to share with their classmates and me! In addition to sharing our artwork, we'll build a class community by commenting on classmate's drawings and answering questions about the myths in our virtual classroom. Our creature schedule is as follows: Week 1: Pegasus and the Chimera Week 2: Cyclops and Satyr Week 3: Centaur and the Phoenix Week 4: Medusa and Minotaur Week 5: Cerberus and Student Requests Drawings will range in detail and difficulty, but I will provide weekly accommodations in the form of partial/traceable outlines. I can't wait to draw and explore some mythical monsters and curious creatures with you! **Get $10 off any of my FLEX classes with coupon code MEGO4LB110 until Jun 27, 2022. Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Meg and I'm an elementary teacher who adores books and art. My family lives in Southern California, but I will always be a New Yorker at heart (Let's go Mets!). I was a classroom teacher for 11 years and have a Masters Degree in Reading Instruction. I taught 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade and have run a small preschool story-time for the last 2 years. As the mom of 2 young boys, I have developed a love of science (particularly bugs, space, animals, and the weather), any and all vehicles, and engineering (thanks to my little Legos-and-blocks-lovers).
I am so excited to create classes that pull from these various areas and interests and to provide cross-curricular lessons that will engage diverse learners in topics that interest them.
I firmly believe that all children are capable and that learning is not limited to the confines of a classroom. Learning is a natural process that should be FUN and motivating! I want to prepare my students to be competent, confident, caring and curious individuals. I hope to create a fun, student-centered environment and to provide a strong foundation for lifelong learning and critical thinking. My instruction utilizes methods that appeal to a variety of learning styles and incorporate play-based, interest-led lessons.
In my classes, authentic literary experiences and motivating topics will hook children to enjoy learning and provide context with which to understand the world we live in. My goal is to provide classes that students will both love and learn from, each with a foundation in quality literature and engaging instruction, assignments, and discussion.
I look forward to "meeting" each of you and can't wait to share our learning with each other.
