Class Experience

Let's learn about the fascinating civilization of Ancient Egypt! We'll start each class learning about a specific aspect of Ancient Egypt through pictures, videos, read alouds, and interactive discussion. Once students have some background knowledge on the topic, they will complete a step-by-step drawing with me.

Our topic schedule is as follows:

Week of March 20: Pyramids
Week of March 27: Death and the Afterlife (Sarcophagus drawing)
Week of April 3 : Mummification Process (Canopic Jars drawing)
Week of April 10: The Great Sphinx
Week of April 24: Anubis
Week of May 1: Ma'at
Week of May 8: Egyptian boat

Drawings will range in detail and difficulty, but I can provide accommodations in the form of partial and traceable outlines (in addition to step-by-step PDF printables) as needed.

This is an ongoing class - join at any time! I'm looking forward to meeting new Egyptologists and seeing some familiar faces. I can't wait to draw and explore Ancient Egypt with you!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Meg and I'm an elementary teacher who adores books and art. My family lives in Southern California, but I will always be a New Yorker at heart (Let's go Mets!). I was a classroom teacher for 11 years and have a Masters Degree in Reading Instruction. I taught 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade and have run a small preschool story-time for the last 2 years. As the mom of 2 young boys, I have developed a love of science (particularly bugs, space, animals, and the weather), any and all vehicles, and engineering (thanks to my little Legos-and-blocks-lovers).

I am so excited to create classes that pull from these various areas and interests and to provide cross-curricular lessons that will engage diverse learners in topics that interest them.

I firmly believe that all children are capable and that learning is not limited to the confines of a classroom. Learning is a natural process that should be FUN and motivating! I want to prepare my students to be competent, confident, caring and curious individuals. I hope to create a fun, student-centered environment and to provide a strong foundation for lifelong learning and critical thinking. My instruction utilizes methods that appeal to a variety of learning styles and incorporate play-based, interest-led lessons.

In my classes, authentic literary experiences and motivating topics will hook children to enjoy learning and provide context with which to understand the world we live in. My goal is to provide classes that students will both love and learn from, each with a foundation in quality literature and engaging instruction, assignments, and discussion.

I look forward to "meeting" each of you and can't wait to share our learning with each other.
