What will be taught:

In this ongoing class, artists will learn how to break down a human face from a photo into its most accurate simplicity so more time can be spent honing into their coloring skills using drawing materials such as colored pencils and art markers.
Throughout the lessons, we will cover many portrait drawing topics such as basic human anatomy, the Reilly and Loomis Methods, understanding light and values, various coloring techniques, extensive color theory and so much more!

How is the class structured, teacher interaction, and how will I teach:
During each class, I will teach artists how to use portrait drawing techniques to draw human faces of different complexities. Each 55-min lesson will work on 1 (one) portrait in a step-by-step instruction. During the step-by-step instruction, it is expected that learners will work silently and quietly notify me if they need help. Learners will be given time to catch up or make adjustments at any time and I can assist in any way I can.
Throughout the class, I will announce opportunities to share their work in progress and their final drawings. The entire classroom will be expected to share constructive criticism positively and be kind and patient with each other and I will enforce this with each learner. Based on learner pacing and the complexity of the lesson, not all drawings may be completed by the end of the class. Learners can choose to finish their lessons after class on their own time. If necessary, the drawing can continue into next week's lesson and if so, the class will be set to "private" to avoid having new learners join in the middle of a portrait.(Class structure is subject to adjust/change to improve on classroom effectiveness)

What is my teaching style:
My teaching style for this class is influenced by a "teacher-centered" format where I will also facilitate conversations, manage classroom behaviors and teach drawing skills and techniques. Artists are encouraged to share their ideas for upcoming lessons and share their skills with the class. While they will be taught techniques on drawing accuracy, learners will be encouraged to not dwell on "perfections", but instead use their current skills and drawing styles to create unique drawings.

Each class instills my key values for art and creativity:

1. Growth in your skill can flourish so much more when you are enjoying the adventure.
I take each of your learners' individual development earnestly. Each interaction I have with your learner will be to guide and empower them to take charge of their own artistic and creative journey with all the tools, techniques, and tricks I can provide.

2. I believe that knowledge and exploration is a key component to creativity.
Every day I strive to learn something new and explore my talents every so I can lead your learner by example. The more information we have about the world around us can inspire our minds in endless ways

3. A creative mind is only as strong as the community they find themselves in.
Every learner is encouraged to support and encourage each other through positive words, sharing their strengths, patience and understanding. Each learner brings with them their own unique experiences and ideas so I try to motivate everyone to collaborate, inspire, and be inspired

Remember: being the best version of you begins with trying your best and I will be overjoyed to help your learner along this journey!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Art and Design from California State University of Fullerton
I have been working and volunteering as an art educator and instructor since 2015. I had been attending college for a Bachelor's degree in Fine Art and Animation from California State University of Fullerton where I had met and been taught by dozens of brilliant creatives. While working in education during college, I had grown to realize that working with developing young minds was what I was most enthusiastic about and teaching art to young artists what I was wholeheartedly passionate about!
Since then, I have been teaching art in various settings, such as: in-person classrooms, online, summer camps, small group and 1:1 environments, and for students with disabilities. I have worked with a diverse number of young artists ranging from four to twenty years old with a wide range of artistic skills and styles.
In addition to teaching art, I have been a para-educator in a school for students with disabilities, an English tutor for adult refugees, interned at a center for therapeutic arts, and a para-educator in public schools for elementary PE and kindergarten,
Most recently, I have been teaching art online since 2022 and I look forward to where my classes on Outschool will take me and your learners!
