Class Experience

In this one time course, students will have fun as we talk about Winter and Elsa's Frozen Castle. My classes are designed to be fun, open and interactive. Students could come to class dressed like their favorite Frozen character or they could show one of their favorite related toys or art. For the first 3-5 minutes of class we will chat about Elsa and other Frozen characters and toys as we get to know each other.

Next, students will learn and practice basic drawing skills by following the teacher step by step or they can add their own creative details. We will talk about shapes (rectangle, triangle, etc.) as we draw the castle. Once we have completed our sketches in pencil we will talk about cool colors and how artists usually use cool colors to show cold things such as snow and ice. Students can choose if they would like to outline their castle in blue, purple, or both. Then, we will use a brush dipped in water to blend and spread the colors, this will make our art look similar to watercolors. I plan to show my examples and how the colors with water blend differently on different types of paper surfaces such as painting paper (bristol board) versus cardstock.

Students will have the option to show their completed art at the end of class but since water will be involved in their art, they will be reminded to move the camera rather than their art if they would like to show it.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! I'm Marie, a full-time teacher and artist. I love a wide variety of art and discovering new ways to foster learning through creativity. I believe having fun and laughing while learning is important because it encourages self confidence and joy. I always try my best to make my classes fun, engaging, and a welcoming experience for every student.

I have taught classroom Art as a certified educator in US schools for 10+ years from ages pre-school through high school, as well as teaching & tutoring in single and group lessons for Art, ESL, SPED, Social Studies, Math, Science, Technology and gifted students. I have also designed and taught in a number of summer camps. In 2017, I was awarded Teacher of the Year honors at my school. I have taught individual and small-group art lessons both online and in my community since 2018, as well as creating and selling my own art to buyers on every continent (well, except Antarctica!)

I have a BA in Education, and have continued professional certification experience through outside professional training programs, conferences and seminars.

In my spare time I enjoy nature, travel, games, and playing with my dogs. I have transitioned to full-time, online private teaching as I believe it allows teachers to develop curriculum which better meets the needs and interests of today's students by directly engaging with the students more thoroughly. The individual and small group settings allow teachers to cater lessons to students needs and goals intuitively. Private teaching online has also allowed me more time and flexibility to spend with my family. I truly believe online learning is a critical part of the future of education, and I'm excited to share some class time with you!
