Homework
1 hour per week. Students will learn specific drawing techniques directly related to a fictional text. Students will be given practice in giving and receiving feedback on their artwork.Assessment
Students will be invited to share their artwork with the class each week as well as areas they feel they are improving on and areas they may still need extra practice on.Class Experience
Students will be directed step by step how to draw each cat using a recorded video slide show and digital drawing technique. Drawing techniques are based on using simplified shapes to create the cat characters described in the Warriors book series. Coloring and shading techniques will also be demonstrated though students may use any technique or medium they choose to complete their drawings. Students are provided with PDF versions of the slide show steps that they can download. Lesson subjects will progress as follows... WEEK 1A: We will learn how to draw and color the FIRESTAR character step by step. WEEK 1B: We will learn how to draw and color the GRAYSTRIPE character step by step. WEEK 1C: We will learn how to draw and color the YELLOWFANG character step by step. WEEK 2A: We will learn how to draw and color the CINDERPELT character step by step. WEEK 2B: We will learn how to draw and color the BLUESTAR character step by step. WEEK 2C: We will learn how to draw and color the DARKSTRIPE character step by step. WEEK 3A: We will learn how to draw and color the TIGERSTAR character step by step. WEEK 3B: We will learn how to draw and color the CLOUDTAIL character step by step. WEEK 3C: We will learn how to draw and color the MAPLESHADE character step by step. WEEK 4A: We will learn how to draw and color the SQUIRRELFLIGHT character step by step. WEEK 4B: We will learn how to draw and color the RAVENPAW character step by step. WEEK 4C: We will learn how to draw and color the LIONHEART character step by step. Students will be invited to share their artwork with the class each week as well as areas they feel they are improving on and areas they may still need extra practice on. ***SUPPLIES REQUIRED: Students may complete their drawings with whatever medium they chose such as marker, colored pencil, or watercolor. Tips will be given for the media they are using.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
This class is a flex drawing class. We will not be reading any of the books during live class meetings. We will also not be meeting for any live class sessions. All lessons are delivered via pre-recorded video. Students may discuss the books during class and it should be noted that spoilers may occur.

I am an artist and photographer specializing in fine art, photography, and art education. I am also an avid reader and I love to discuss books and draw out my ideas and perceptions from them. In addition, I have been a homeschool educator for 16 years. I have taught children's art classes privately and through local after school and children's museum programs. Her photography has appeared in Parents Magazine and numerous photography blogs. I enjoy finding connections between things that don't seem connected upon first glance. To do that, I divide things down to their simplest parts and look for similarities. As a result I am able to break down seemingly complicated projects into simple step by step lessons. I also have a great appreciation for irony in art and life and try to infuse humor and silliness in my lessons and in my own work as well.
