Students will follow a teacher demonstration to create a beautiful animal & landscape scene, in a style inspired by the Fauvist painter Franz Marc. This is a one-session class that will end with each student having created their own unique masterpiece! We will begin by viewing example artworks and sketching out our own designs on canvas or paper. The teacher will demonstrate techniques that students will use to imitate the "wild" colors of Franz Marc's abstract style of painting, then lead students step-by-step through the creation of the artwork. Although instructions are quite detailed, students are encouraged to add their own creative touches to their work! The recommended supply list for this class is: oil pastels and a piece of construction paper (in the student's choice of color). This project can also be completed in crayon, paint, or other media if supplies are limited. More details, and an alternate list for those who wish to paint, may be found in the "learner supply list" below. Supply List
This project may be created with either drawing or painting supplies! The use of either will result in a beautiful artwork, so it is entirely the artist's preference which one to use, although drawing is recommended for beginners. I will include both options below. ****My preferred materials for this project are oil pastels on colored construction paper, but if supplies are limited, it can also be created using crayons or colored pencils on white paper, or acrylic paints on white or colored paper (or canvas). Drawing supply list: - Black or dark blue paper (around 9x12") - Oil pastels (recommend Pentel or Cray-Pas, both available on Amazon, or at art supply stores for under $10) Painting supply list: - Canvas or thick paper, around 9x12" Both canvases and watercolor pads are available from Amazon or at art supply stores, for under $10. - Acrylic paints or craft paints (available from Amazon or at art supply stores, for under $10). Colors needed include: white, black, blue, green, yellow, orange & red. - Paint brush(es), small/medium in size (available from Amazon or at art supply stores, for under $5) - water cup, paper plate (for mixing colors), paper towels

I have taught guided drawing lessons in my classes for at least the past ten years! This style of painting or drawing is very accessible, and my students are often pleasantly surprised at how well their artwork turns out. My demonstration is easy to follow, but still allows students to experiment and add a personal touch to their work. I love the bright colors and free-spirited abstraction of this project, and I hope that your learners enjoy it as much as I do!
