In this one time class students can take a break and have fun while learning (or reviewing) and practicing the rules of improv. Students will learn (or review) and practice those rules by playing games and interacting with other students.

Welcome to Drama Summer Camp! This class offers a brain break for students to learn through game play. In this Basics of Improv class we will discuss and explore the "rules" of improvisational acting all while playing games. We will spend some time outlining the "do's" & "don'ts" of improv and practice by playing games like Word Tennis, Energy Ball, Freeze & Justify, and more! I have a BA in Theatre and a MA in Directing for theatre. Both of my degrees required the completion of improv classes. I also taught improv to students in public schools for eight years, and coached award-winning improv pieces for competition.
There won't be any homework for this course.
A positive attitude and an open mind.
After every game, we will discuss the do/don't that pertains to it and the students will have the opportunity to talk about what they experienced and learned.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
