Class Experience

The Dragons classes are custom designed to introduce children to basic Martial Arts. Each week, the student will be challenged physically and mentally as they gain all the benefits of martial arts and are taught Respect, Courtesy, Self Confidence, Physical Fitness, Goal Setting and so much more. All students learn the importance of Black Belt Excellence, a metaphor for developing strong character. Taekwondo challenges the entire body, developing coordination, balance, agility and poise — factors often neglected in many team sports.

Each class will begin with a traditional greeting, jumping jacks, stretching and core work. Stretches include butterfly stretches (during which the students will guide us on an imaginary journey and core work will consist of bicycles drills (where we will go on another imaginary journey). We will then review the previous lesson and dive into that day’s lesson. Each class will conclude with a 15 count – a series of positions and moves the students will become familiar with as we progress through the classes.

Students are not only encouraged to replicate each move, but also accompany each move with a “kia,” count out loud and respond to instruction with a loud “yes, Ma’am.” During each class, we will count (1-10) in Korean. We encourage the students to repeat after the instructor so that they can commit the numbers to memory.

Classes are live on video chat.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been a teacher for the past 30 years, working in the my local school system, as well as in Outschool for two years. It is my pleasure to help students learn my native language. I am fluent in Spanish. I am also a product of a full immersion school system, as such I understand the everyday challenges students and parents face.

Tae Kwon Do Classes,
I am a certify 4th degree black belt, a Tae Kwon Do and fitness instructor.
I have a BA in Biology
Fluent in Spanish

For the last 24 years, I have had the honor and privilege to work with students ages 4-76. Whether it has been within a county’s educational system, a summer camp, a private group or my own studio, I enjoy being able to teach children something new and watch their confidence build as they learn. I have been teaching on Outschool for over a year and have enjoyed teaching children across the globe. With every class I aim to build tomorrow’s leaders one kick at a time. I use the principles embedded within Tae Kwon Do and draw parallels to anything my students may currently be going through. My goal is to provide a (virtual) space to allow children to learn an ancient art, build their confidence, develop both gross and fine motor skills and have fun doing so.

For 10 years worked as a translator for an NGO. I have traveled throughout latin America as a liaison between foreign governments and NGOs.

As a mother of two talented and successful black belt daughters, I know first hand how important it is to support and empower children. My husband of 35 years, another black belt, couldn't agree more. Yes, we are a family of black belts. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy traveling, volunteering, participating in medical missions and spending time with my family and two oversize puppies. I hope to get to "meet" you soon.
