Class Experience

In this class, learners will gather to draw dragons together and to show and explain what dragons they're creating (or have created!). This class is designed for learners who are already drawing dragons on their own and would like to draw some dragons together in a small group setting. This class will be a combination of discussion and description and independent drawing/creating work. My teaching style is fun and supportive; learners will be encouraged to use their imaginations and I will provide specific instruction as requested by the class -- for example, if learners want to practice drawing mouths or claws or wings. I encourage experimentation and creativity; there is no wrong way to draw a dragon! Some groups tend to be quiet groups who want to draw, and some groups want to share what they know and like about dragons. Both are OK for this class!

Note: Learners do not have to have taken Drawing Dragons! to have fun and enjoy this class, but they should be able to draw a basic dragon or dragon-like shape since this class will be less about the technique instruction of how to draw a dragon and more about getting inspired by one another and working on specific aspects of a dragon (claws, wings, special abilities, etc.) or a dragon character.
Learning Goals
Students will benefit from a small group setting (social interaction), while also creating and describing what they're creating (using imagination, verbal skills, vocabulary).

Hello! My name is Anne (she/her) and I am an artist and educator based in New England, USA. I've worked as an educator in a variety of settings ranging from afterschool arts programming to hands-on science programming to speaking and presentation skills with non-native speakers of English. My academic background is in English literature and popular culture, but I have a wide range of teaching interests.

As a non-traditional learner myself, I believe that people learn in many different ways, so it is vital to meet students where they're at. Education should be interesting and engaging.

I am available for a variety of arts-based classes (including developing new classes) as well as private tutorials; please feel free to message if either of those are of interest to you or your learner. I do tend to hold classes even with lower enrollment numbers, and am happy to schedule additional sections depending on scheduling and needs. My goal is to have the classroom be an inclusive, supportive environment that encourages creativity and creative thinking.

A fun fact about me: I've been a roller derby referee for over ten years!
I look forward to seeing you in my classroom!
