Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 1
Beginner Level
In this one time class, learners will celebrate the author Dr. Seuss and listen to a book written by Dr. Seuss. (I will give a voice/choice to the learners as to what book we will read.) The books can change for each class, so feel free to enroll your learner again. Learners will make predictions during the reading, make text to self connections, and feel the joy of literacy. Learners will listen for words that rhyme. They have the same ending sounds and make us dance. "Hat, Cat, they both have ~at. The learners will then follow step by step instructions to create a directed drawing of the Cat In The Hat. They will then add the pattern of colors on the hat. If the learners feel comfortable, they will share their finished Cat In The Hat for all to admire!

Hi! Welcome to my Outschool classroom.

My name is Betty Nilssen. 💕

I have a BS in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish from UW-Milwaukee. I am a first grade teacher, but I have also taught second, third and fourth grade, full inclusive classrooms. My passion for teaching reading while incorporating phonics, phonemic awareness, rhyming, comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, science, social studies, math, drawing and writing helps children strengthen their academic skills while they gain academic confidence and a love of learning. Teaching reading is my super power.

However, I always incorporate math, writing, drawing, social studies and science into all of my lessons, as well.

I have three adult daughters and two of them are teachers. My mom was also an educator.

There are so many books to read, words and sentences to write, math equations to solve and fiction and non fiction pictures to draw. Let's get started!

Enroll your Early Childhood Education student and your child will further develop an academic foundation and gain academic confidence with a love of learning. Your child will be a life time reader!

Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or if you are looking for different times or dates for classes.
I can't wait to work with you and your child and further a passion for learning!
