Teacher expertise and credentials
1. I am passionate about learning everything I can about about the world around me. My areas of greatest expertise are:
a.) Biology: animal behavior, zoology, life science, biology, AP biology, science writing, science
presentations, science projects
b.) English: writing skills, creative writing
c.) Life Skills: study skills, goal setting, AHDH strategies, and how to love learning
2. I'm a college professor, former high school teacher, and quite simply a "jack-of-all-trades" teacher. I have a PhD in zoology, and BAs in biology and English. Education and animals are my two greatest passions!
3. I believe that learning can and should be fun. I focus on helping my students build a foundation of understanding--not just facts. My goal is to help students grow and feel confident in their ability to ask important questions and solve big problems. My students most often use the words "passionate," "enthusiastic," and "caring" to describe my approach to teaching. Also, fun!
4. I've traveled the world in order to study animals! (I've lived in Jane Goodall's house in Tanzania, and a chimpanzee once stole my laundry. I've literally been trapped on an island in the Great Barrier Reef!) I also study animals right here at my home! I have goats, chickens, horses, dogs, rabbits, and cats!
