In this class, LGBTQ+ Dungeons and Dragons players will play the game over live video chat. Each meeting, a youth will serve as Dungeon Master (providing the backstory, props, and "hosting" the game play) and the instructor will assist with game flow and interpersonal interactions. Stories will at times be specifically LGBTQ-focused and at all times game play and interaction will be very much centered on affirming LGBTQ youth. We are welcoming any level of experience with playing the game....
I am a queer-identified clinician and educator with 20+ years experience working with youth in many contexts.
Players can bring dice or other game items of their choosing. For those who do not have these at home, there are other ways to make game play work.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
This is a fantasy role-playing game. Themes may include violence, romance, grief, loss, criminal activity, and so forth. The instructor does intend to keep the space a safe space for all marginalized individuals and will ensure that oppression is not glorified. Players who find game interactions upsetting will be given space to discuss this.
