45 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
Once a week, we will get together for some doodling and art history. Bring your paints, crayons, pencils, or whichever other drawing tools you prefer, and get ready to doodle as we learn about the week's artist. We kick off with a definition of what doodling is and then get right to it! This is not a formal art lesson but an opportunity for kids to get creative and tune into their imaginations as they learn about the featured artist of the week. Students are given a doodling technique as a prompt/guideline to get started (for example: Picasso - breaking up your drawing into pieces and using contrasting colours). I will present the artist’s biography and fun facts through a lecture style format and lots of visuals as students doodle away. We engage in some pop up trivia and discussion - talking about how the art makes us feel, what we find fascinating about the artist and their art, and relating it back to our own art and experiences. There is about 5-10 minutes of quiet time for students to wrap their art work for the day where a slideshow of the artist’s work is played to classical music. Listening to classical music also has many benefits and helps concentration and creativity. We finish with a show and tell of the art that the students created during that session. I love seeing how imaginations soar and ideas expand from class to class! Why doodle as we go? - Helps You Concentrate - Helps Spur Creativity - Helps Process Emotions - It Alleviates Stress - It’s A Creative Outlet - Helps You Learn Better - Helps Big-Picture Thinking Featured Artists: Week 1: Edgar Degas Week 2: Georgia O'Keefe Week 3: Pablo Picasso Week 4: Leonardo Da Vinci Week 5: Wassily Kandinsky Week 6: Claude Monet Week 7 & 8: Frida Kahlo Week 9: Salvador Dali Week 10: Vincent Van Gogh Week 11: Joan Miro Week 12: Jackson Pollock and more!
