Class Experience

Once a week, we will get together for some doodling and art history. Bring your paints, crayons, pencils, or whichever other drawing tools you prefer, and get ready to doodle as we learn about the week's artist.

We kick off with a definition of what doodling is and then get right to it! This is not a formal art lesson but an opportunity for kids to get creative and tune into their imaginations as they learn about the featured artist of the week. Students are given a doodling technique as a prompt/guideline to get started (for example: Picasso - breaking up your drawing into pieces and using contrasting colours).

I will present the artist’s biography and fun facts through a lecture style format and lots of visuals as students doodle away. We engage in some pop up trivia and discussion - talking about how the art makes us feel, what we find fascinating about the artist and their art, and relating it back to our own art and experiences.

There is about 5-10 minutes of quiet time for students to wrap their art work for the day where a slideshow of the artist’s work is played to classical music. Listening to classical music also has many benefits and helps concentration and creativity. We finish with a show and tell of the art that the students created during that session. I love seeing how imaginations soar and ideas expand from class to class!

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
Hey there,

I am so glad you are checking out my profile - welcome! Let me tell you a little about who I am.

With over a decade of experience teaching and tutoring kids of all ages I bring a unique mix of both hands-on real-life expertise as well as plenty of knowledge. I believe the two go closely hand in hand and vital for success in today’s world. My teaching style is all about discussions and engagement. I strive for my students to think creatively, analytically and outside the box, constantly applying what they learn to themselves and the real world.

I've happily transitioned to full time on outschool doing what I love! Under my roster of classes you will find: economics, entrepreneurship, money, finance, career studies, arts & crafts, and art history. I keep my class sizes at a maximum of 6-8, to ensure every child is engaged and has an opportunity to participate.

About my background: I have an honours degree in Financial and Business Economics, as well as a background in languages (English, Russian, French and Spanish), literature, writing, and art and almost decade in the world of business where I owned and operated my own successful event planning company. My classes are intentionally diverse - I am equally well-versed and equipped in teaching them all with love and passion and above all else - a thorough understanding of the subject matter and how to teach it to my students.

I really look forward to seeing you in my classroom!
