Students will learn to identify emotions, understand what happens when emotions are out of control, and gain tools for communicating and regulating their emotions.
Class experience
In this class: We will learn that we are made with feelings inside of us. We will talk about how some emotions make our bodies feel good; some feelings make our bodies feel bad; some make our bodies feel in between; but that emotions are not good or bad. We will learn about two parts of our brain - the thinking part and the feeling part - and how we can't think clearly or make good choices, when we are having big feelings. We will talk about what it means to flip out lids. We will learn...
Children will learn that feelings are okay. Children will learn what happens to their ability to think clearly when their emotions are out of control. Children will learn tools that they can use to calm down and regulate their emotions. Children will learn how they can communicate their feelings to others.
I have received extensive training in Social Emotional Learning, Trauma Informed Care, Bullying Prevention and Expeditionary Learning (EL), over the past three years. I taught social-emotional learning at my local preschool, using Second Step and Conscious Discipline. I am passionate about social-emotional learning and believe it is the foundation of all education.
