In this class, students will learn what a persuasive essay is and how to convince a reader to agree with their opinion. We will start with an ice-breaker game and move on to discuss the definition of a persuasive essay, main idea sentence/ thesis statement and how to incorporate supporting detail. We will then complete a graphic organizer/ brainstorming sheet that will help the learner organize their thoughts. In the second class, students will review their brainstorming ideas with their classmates. We will all help each other come up with ideas if necessary. Students will then learn how to begin their essay using a hook. Finally, the students will get a chance to begin writing their essay. Whatever isn’t finished should be sent to me through the out school classroom site. This is a silly and fun way to learn the basic format of a persuasive essay. Hope to see you there so we can learn how to save the turkey from getting eaten this Thanksgiving!
