Class Experience

With the help of a doll or stuffy, learners will pique and plie through Peter Pan: JM Barrie’s classic children’s novel come to life through the magic of ballet. We will begin with a lite technical warm up that includes an introduction to French ballet terminology, then move on to dancer + doll partner stretches. After listening to the story, we will pause to discuss and ensure the plot is clear, as narrative ballets can sometimes be murky. The remainder of class will be spent on ballet-based...

This class includes music appreciation, a literature discussion, guided self expression activities, and foundational ballet movements. It aims to be a well rounded, multi faceted experience of the culture of ballet, not just the steps.

I teach doll + me yoga at American Girl Place here in Chicago, and have led creative ballet programming in schools, daycares, and community centers for nearly a decade.

Any doll or stuffy will do!

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.

Please ensure dancers have a few feet to move safely in all directions. 
Note: the offensive portrayals of Native Americans used in the classic Disney film are not included in the narrative ballet Peter Pan, or this class.
