With the help of a doll or stuffy, learners will pique and plie through A Little Princess: the classic tale of young Sarah Crewe, unexpectedly alone in Victorian London. We will begin with a lite technical warm up that includes an introduction to French ballet terminology, then move on to dancer + doll partner stretches. After listening to the story, we will pause to discuss and ensure the plot is clear, as narrative ballets can sometimes be murky. The remainder of class will be spent on ballet-based drama and movement games, set to a mixture of musical styles.
Learning Goals
This class includes music appreciation, a literature discussion, guided self expression activities, and foundational ballet movements. It aims to be a well rounded, multi faceted experience of the culture of ballet, not just the steps.
