Time for some crazy adventures! Join Ms. Brenda, Dog Man, Lil'Petey, Petey, Chief, Sarah, and the others for five weeks of silliness and fun. Each week we will focus on a different Dog Man book. We will create a comic book-style book report for each book and learn to discover a book's main ideas. We will also do activities, crafts, and discover our own Supa Buddy identity. Using FlipGrid, Ms. Brenda will share a video talking about each book and then everyone will have a chance to record...
Students will learn to determine important parts of a book in order to create a book report. Students will be given multiple options for answering questions so that they may participate regardless of their comfort with reading and writing. Students will be able to express their own creativity with guided prompts.
I love to read. I mean I LOVE to read. Fat juicy novels, picture books, fantasy, history, science fiction, and middle grade- oh especially middle grade. Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, I am Jack, and The Chronicles of Narnia. . . I love them so much! So when my daughter was born I dreamed about sharing their words and their worlds with her. But-- She's ADHD. She's a body-kinesthetic learner. She's highly visual. She doesn't like to read. Some days, she hates it. I had never even imagined the possibility. Out went all my plans for homeschooling using great books and living books. There went the classical, literature-based education I had planned. I couldn't and can't force her into the childhood I had planned. I had to adapt. I haven't figured it out, yet, but I search and seek for things that catch and hold her interest. That's how we discovered Dog Man. Wonderful, beautiful, incredible Dog Man. Themes and stories I love retold with added silliness, bright illustrations, and an adorable baby kitten. She may never read Lord of the Flies, but she has absorbed The Lord of the Fleas. And that is just fine. Dog Man is silly but it teaches kindness, forgiveness, perseverance, compassion, and so many other high ideas. I love the books. I love that she loves the books. Mostly I love her-- ADHD and all.
Students will need blank paper, crayons, markers, pencils, and room to let their brilliance shine.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Dog Man books contain potty humor and mild cartoon violence.
