Bachelor of Arts, May 2007
Major: English
Minor: Psychology
Please see ***INTERVIEW notes (section D) above.
1) An unused, free of past writing, journal. This can be a spiral notebook, a bound composition book or loose, lined paper secured in a binder. The two most important qualities of this class journal is that it should be suitably lined for an elementary student (i.e. no blank paper or college ruled notebooks) and that the journal is in secured form.
2) Three sharpened pencils with working erasers (we are writers, after all!) and a pencil sharpener.
3) Weekly writing templates/ graphic organizers shared in the Classroom for printing out before each week's meet.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
While the Interview journal excerpt sharing is the course 'exit ticket', please see section C where I discuss daily journal feedback. In my rich experience of elementary sentence structure, writing fluency, grammar, punctuation and proofreading, I am here for any students or families that are looking to navigate challenge spots in the writing process, positive encouragement and/ or specific targets in the 'science' of the course's writing styles.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
While there is no parental guidance necessary for the course, each student is tasked to conduct an Interview for their final, journal writing excerpt (details above in sections D and E). This interview may be done face-to-face, virtually, over a phone conversation -- this connection piece is your opportunity to foster said guidance! In addition, while I am always happily available to brainstorm interview questions throughout the week with students, it is also absolutely fine if you would like to be their 'brainstorming sounding board' as well!

My natural inclination to read anywhere (including upside down in that childhood recliner I mention in my video!) grew to daydreaming about being the...
