With Shark Week 2022 underway, now is the perfect time for your student to brush up on their knowledge of these incredible animals. The first part of this one-time class will involve learners' perceptions/preexisting ideas about sharks, followed by an overview of the realities (for example, how infrequently sharks attack humans and why they do), some cool trivia (including factoids such as "yes, sharks DO sleep"), and a brief conversation about the importance of conservation. This class is far more about fun than fear, and children will walk away with a far more accurate grasp of why sharks are not only fascinating, but vital to ocean ecosystems.
Learning Goals
*Students will become more knowledgeable about sharks in the context of biodiversity and ecological significance.
*Students will explore the realities of how sharks and humans coexist and how that contradicts images and ideas of sharks in popular culture.
*Students will become more comfortable discussing scientific topics with a teacher and peers.
*Students will discover fun factoids about sharks that they will be encouraged to share with friends and family when class ends.
