Description
Class Experience
Students will learn what makes music - high/low, long/short-short, fast/slow, and loud/soft. We will also learn many songs/chants and movements that will reinforce steady beat, pitch, language skills, physical coordination, counting, science of sound and animals, different countries, and kindness. A true musical treasure chest!
Hi - My name is Amy Spiess-Ki and I cannot wait to teach your child! I currently am also the music specialist in a School of the Arts for Kindergarten through 2nd grade. I am a certified music teacher who has taught over 20,000 children in just over 20 years! My classes are exciting, music-based, integrated, and imaginative. I strive to create child-focused lessons that are well-planned and well loved. A typical class is seen singing, moving, reading, playing, and listening to each other… all while learning the lesson’s goal and often integrating language, math, science, and social studies. I enjoy being with children, seeing the magic in every child I teach, and experiencing joyful music making together!
There is no required homework, but I will always write something you can do at home in our classroom each week. And... a little birdie told me that your child may want to sing their songs over and over again!
Please Make a Musical Box for your child. They will sometimes need the following: Something to shake (maraca, shaker egg, container with rice) Something to wave (scarf, shirt, small piece of material) Drum (Oatmeal container, box) Rhythm Sticks (or 2 pencils or chopsticks) Paper Writing Utensil (pencil and crayons) The Incredible You! For a very special occasion, your child may need: Something round to write the music notes with (skittles, grapes, cheerios, etc) Stuffed Animal
I will be assessing your child. Usually this will be informal - a call and response solo, an answer to a question, the way they moved their body. I continually assess through each class, but the students are not aware of that. They just think music is fun.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Music and movement are interrelated. As such, we will be marching, jogging, jumping, walking, etc. Students will need a small movement space at times. Also, we will sing holiday songs throughout the year, and learn songs in other languages too. All songs will be inclusive (ie. Jingle Bells, Sing about Martin, and Bate Bate Chocolate).
