Welcome to Brevoy! The local lords have long been disturbed by the monsters and other threats inhabiting the Stolen Lands south of the border. They offer adventurers an opportunity: Venture into the Stolen Lands, secure the borders, and YOU can become RULERs of your own Kingdom. Not only will you have a typical heroic adventurer like in DnD, but you will also be taking charge of a realm and develop it! Kingmaker is a classic setting for Pathfinder, now updated for Second Edition!. Players take the role of adventurers, and developing their realms. As we play through this campaign, students will learn cooperation, diplomacy, geopolitics political economy, as well as how to do improvisational acting and how to build a story together. Players are allowed to create a character using the Pathfinder Second Edition rules before start, but have to discuss the character with the DM, as it has to fit into the setting. Week of February 13th: We create characters together and decide on why the group has come together to set out on this adventure. Week of February 20th: The group ventures into the Stolen Lands and decide which area to explore first. Week of February 27th: The group creates their first settlement in their new Kingdom. Week of March 6th: The group decides which new threat to their Kingdom to deal with first. This class is perfectly suited for an Ongoing class as it is structured as a Sandbox. The area has a number of adventure sites that the learners can explore, but the learners decide in which order to explore the adventure sites. Each is a self-contained adventure, so a learner who joins for Session 3 will be able to join without having experienced the first few sessions. Also, if a learner attends Session 1, but not Session 2, it is assumed that their character will be in their home base nearby, which functions like a base of operations, making it easy to join or leave the adventures. If a learner misses Session 1 or 2, they will simply be able to join as a wandering adventurer that gets accepted into the group.

In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Teacher expertise and credentials
Doctoral Degree from University of Alberta
I teach social studies and role-playing games. I have 35 years of experience as a Game-master of table-top roleplaying games and Live-Action Roleplay organizer and facilitator for people of ages 7+. I used that experience in my teaching, pioneering the use of games and simulations to help my students understand government, economics and social and cultural processes.
My key principle for teaching is that students learn by doing and experiencing the subject matter. Students in my classes can thus expect a lot of playing games, regardless of content, because it is fun but also because we learn better together that way.
When I'm not teaching I...play more games because...let's face it, I'm a big geek.
