In this lab activity, learners will be taught the basics of DNA and its extraction process. They will understand how structure impacts function.

Topics that will be covered:
- Introduction to DNA and its importance in genetics.
- Understanding the structure of DNA.
- The significance of DNA extraction in scientific research.
- Step-by-step procedure for extracting DNA from a fruit.
- Observing and analyzing the extracted DNA.

The class will begin with an introduction to DNA. The step-by-step process of DNA extraction will be modeled, while learners also perform the extraction. There will be a guided discussion and analysis of the results. Clear demonstrations and explanations will be provided to ensure success. 

 Learners can ask questions and share their observations during the class. They can also discuss their findings and exchange ideas with the class. No prior experience or knowledge is needed.

Parental Guidance
Adult supervision is advised during the class to ensure safe handling of materials. Parents should monitor their child but not appear on camera or engage with other students.
Supply List
Materials for DNA Extraction Class:

1. A ripe fruit (e.g., banana, strawberry, or kiwi)
2. 1 ziplock bag (small or sandwich size, must be able to close tightly)
3. Table salt (1/4 cup)
4. Water (1 cup)
5. Dish soap (1 tablespoon)
6. Coffee filters or cheesecloth
7. Rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover (70% or higher) - 1 cup
8. Tall clear glass or plastic cups 
9. Chop sticks or disposable plastic stirrers (for stirring)
10. Plastic funnels (optional but helpful)
11. Safety goggles (optional but recommended)
12. Paper towels or napkins

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
